TOPEKA, KS — The Amarillo Bulls look to extend their unbeaten string to 14 games when they visit the Topeka Pilots for the first time this season at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena starting tonight (Friday) and continuing tomorrow night at 7:05 pm.
Tonight’s game is only available on Hockey TV with the Topeka broadcast crew as the voice of the Bulls Denis J. Puska didn’t make the trip due to illness.
It’s just the third and fourth meetings of the season between the two teams who haven’t seen one another since early September. At that time, the Bulls took both games in the Texas Panhandle 5-4 and 5-2.
In the current Bulls run, the team has won 11 of the 13 games by one goal, including the last six. These two games will conclude the first half of the schedule before Christmas for Amarillo and will have next weekend off before returning to action on December 30.
Topeka has three wins in its last seven games, but three of those games have required either overtime or a shootout.
This weekend’s match-up features two of the least penalized teams in the North American Hockey League, but among the deadliest on the power play when their opponent is put a man down. Amarillo is third in power play goals, while the Pilots are fifth.
Logan Jenuwine continues to lead the way for the Bulls with 19 goals and six game winners, while Brenden Datema has netted 12 goals with nine of them coming on special teams.
With Dallas Tulik’s departure for the USHL, the Pilots have had to look elsewhere for their offense and picking up he slack are Mike Muschitiello, Max Finner and Brendan Shultz.
There are two other match-ups in the South Division this weekend as the Odessa Jackalopes entertain the Corpus Christi IceRays, while the Lone Star Brahmas venture down I-20 to meet the Shreveport Mudbugs.
Hockey returns to the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Sunday, Dec. 30 and Monday, Dec. 31 when the Amarillo Bulls entertain the Topeka Pilots. Sunday’s game is a special start time of 4 pm and features the Zooperstars, a family friend act that has performed on America’s Got Talent. Monday’s game is the 8th annual New Year’s Eve game which has become a tradition in the Texas Panhandle.
