AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls take their four game winning streak on the road tomorrow (Friday) night when they visit the Odessa Jackalopes in the first of a two game set at Ector County Coliseum. The face-off for both games is set for 7 pm.
The Bulls, which have won five of their last six games, are in a log jam three-way tie for first place in the South Division with the Topeka RoadRunners and the Texas Tornado. All of the teams have 33 points. The Tornado blew an opportunity to be in first place by-themselves when they were beaten by Wichita Falls on home ice on Wednesday night. Texas and Topeka start a three game weekend series in the state of Kansas on Friday night.
The last time the Bulls were at Ector County Coliseum was to close out the South Division Semi-Final Series last April. In this current stretch that began on Saturday, the Bulls will face the Jackalopes five times in the next eight games. The Jackalopes are also on a difficult stretch where in the next nine games they will either see the Bulls or the Texas Tornado.
While the Bulls offense has netted 19 goals in their last four games, it’s been the defense that has been equally solid — limiting their opponents to two goals in three of the four wins and just three goals when the teams play five-on-five hockey.
The Bulls are ranked first overall in goals for and shots for per game and second overall in goals against and shots against per game. Rookie Carter Penzien and forward Mike Davis head into the series with riding good play. Penzien has three goals in his last three games, while Davis has collected six assists in his last four games.
Fans can tune into the games live on ESPN1440 and www.amarillobulls.com beginning with the Bulls Warm Up Show and Denis J. Puska at 6:45 pm. The games are also available on Pay Per View courtesy of Fast Hockey and a high speed internet connection is required in order to view the games.
Hockey is back at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center next Saturday and Sunday when the Amarillo Bulls host the Corpus Christi IceRays. Rowdy makes his return on Saturday at 7pm and in honor of that night there will be $5 silver end zone seats and $7 red-center ice tickets. Sunday’s game has a special start time of 4 pm and anyone wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey will get a free ticket the contest.
