Weekend Preview-Bulls host RoadRunners this weekend


WHAT: Games 1 and 2 – South Division Final.

WHEN: Tomorrow (Friday) night and Saturday night at 7 pm.

WHERE: Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

PROMOTIONS: Friday is sponsored by NewsChannel 10. One lucky fan will win a $400 gift certificate from Texas Tire and Tube. Fans are encouraged to create a sign and bring it out in support of the Bulls. There will also be an opportunity for fans to create a sign prior to face-off on the Main Concourse.

Saturday is sponsored by The Big Texan. The first 1,000 fans will receive a 3D cup and there will be a 72-ounce Steak Eating contest prior to the game in The Corral.

THE SERIES: This is game one of the best-of-five South Division Final between the Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners. The Bulls have home ice by finishing first in the regular season. The second game of the series is tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 pm. The series shifts to Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena for Game 3 next Thursday, Apr. 24 and Game 4 (if necessary) Friday, Apr. 25 at 7 pm. If a fifth and deciding game is needed, it will be played on Monday, Apr. 28 at 7 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

REGULAR SEASON NUMBERS: There were 12 regular season meetings between the Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners. The Bulls finished with a mark of 5-5-2 in the season series. Nine of the 12 games were decided by two goals or less with the last five featuring one goal contests. Captain Mike Davis led the way for the bulls with two goals and eight assists for 10 points. Of the Bulls 29 goals, Tyler Gernhofer, Carter Penzien and Roman Ammirato had 13 of them. The goaltending duo of Collin Delia and Paul Berrafato combined for 2.00 goals against average with Delia posting three wins and yielding just seven goals. Of the 24 goals scored by Topeka, Tyler Poulsen had seven and James Ring chipped in four. Goaltender PJ Bridges collected seven victories, two of those in overtime, and had a goals against average of 1.75.

NAHL PLAYOFF PRIMER: There are just eight teams remaining in the chase for the 2014 Robertson Cup National Championship. Amarillo, Fairbanks, Austin and Port Huron remain alive as the No.1 seeds, while the Bismarck Bobcats and the Wenatchee Wild are the lowest seeds alive at #3. In the North its match-up of two close rivals as the Michigan Warriors meet the Port Huron Fighting Falcons. The Central Division features a rematch of last year’s final as the Austin Bruins look for revenge against the Bobcats. The Midwest Division final, is a redo of last year’s West Division final as the Wenatchee Wild face the NAHL overall champs, Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
