THE SERIES: It’s the 9th and 10th meetings of the season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Shreveport Mudbugs. Six of the eight previous meetings have been decided by one goal, and two have required a shootout. After this weekend, there is still one set of games remaining between the two teams that takes place in February in Louisiana.
ACROSS THE SOUTH: There is plenty going on in the South Division this weekend as all teams will see action. The Odessa Jackalopes head up north to Topeka to face the Pilots at Kansas Expo Center Landon Arena in a three-game set. The other match-up has the Lone Star Brahmas hosting the Corpus Christi IceRays at NYTEX Sports Center. Six points separates 2nd through 5th in the South Division standings.
WEEKEND REWIND: The Amarillo Bulls are coming off their first weekend split since October after falling 5-3 to Odessa, but then winning 6-2 the following night. The Shreveport Mudbugs were beaten 4-0 and then 3-2 in overtime by the Corpus Christi IceRays at American Bank Center.
BULLS NOTES: Forward Logan Jenuwine is second in the NAHL in scoring with 32 goals and 24 assists for 54 points. He trails Samuel Solensky by six points. The Romeo, Michigan native is first in goals with 32 and third in plus-minus. Jenuwine has two current hot streaks with 24 points in his last 10 games, and eight goals in his last five games. The Bulls average 38.50 shots per game which is nearly a shot and a half more than their nearest competitor. Rocky Russo’s charges lead the North American Hockey League with 54 first period goals.
BUG BITES: The Shreveport Mudbugs are 5-3-1-1 in their 10 games and have netted just 12 first goals this season. At 24 minutes a game, the Mudbugs lead the NAHL in penalty minutes. Alone the Mudbugs have been penalized a total of 854 minutes. The Mudbugs are one of three teams to play in 10 overtime or shootout games this season. Shreveport has been outscored by 10 markers in the first period, but make that up in the middle stanza where the goal differential is plus nine.
