THE SERIES: It’s the third and fourth meetings of the season between the Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas. The Bulls won the first two games in the season series 4-2 and 7-0. After this weekend, the two teams will meet again on December 29 and New Year’s Eve for the first time in Amarillo. Matt Sieckhaus, Joe Grabowski and Mike Davis each have two goals for the Bulls in the series.
BULLS STATS AND MORE: The Amarillo Bulls have the number one rated offense in the first and third periods in the North American Hockey League. The Bulls have netted 29 goals in the first and 36 in the third which is the most of any team. The 96 goals scored lead the circuit, while the mark of 51 against is second to only the Minnesota Wilderness. Just over half of the Bulls victories 11 in total have been by two goals or less.
SCORING LEADERSHIP: Four members of the Bulls are in the top seven in the North American Hockey League scoring race. Tyler Gernhofer, who was chosen as the player of the month for November, leads with 34 points, followed by teammate Matt Sieckhaus who is tied for second just two points back. Forward Mike Davis is tied for third with 29 points, while Roman Ammirato is one point back in fourth with 28. The speedy forward has netted four goals in his last three games. Joe Grabowski is just one point out of first place in scoring among defenseman. Grabowski’s 22 points (6 goals and 16 assists) are near the top among rearguards in those categories.
ALUMNI UPDATE: It’s a mini Alumni reunion weekend as several former Bulls will go head to head against one another. At the Division I level, Canisius College (Geoff Fortman, Cody Freeman) face Army (Joe Kozlak, Garrett Peterson, Clint Carlisle, Luke Jenkins and Kyle Plageman). Robert Morris (John Rey and Greg Gibsion) takes on Bentley (Tyler Deresky).
UP NEXT AT HOME: Sonic Sunday caps off a big weekend for the Amarillo Bulls as the Odessa Jackalopes make a return visit to the Texas Panhandle for the first time since opening weekend. The face off of this free game is 6 pm. Tickets will be available starting at 4 pm at either the Main Box Office or Gate 8 (Southeast Corner) of the Amarillo Civic Center.
