Amarillo, Tx( Mar 27, 2021) The Amarillo Bulls complete the weekend sweep of the Odessa Jackalopes with a 3-to-0 win on Saturday night.
The Jackalopes would start the game with a power-play after Bulls defenseman Jack Mesic took a penalty just 30 seconds into the game. The Bulls would survive the Odessa attack, but the Jackalopes would maintain momentum throughout the opening frame. Odessa would get 16 shots on Andrew Takacs in the opening frame but the teams would stay scoreless after the first period.
The Bulls would slow down the Odessa attack in the second period and the teams would remain scoreless toward the halfway point of the second period. Odessa would take a penalty and Mattias Dal Monte would bury a rebound for a power-play goal and a 1-to-0 Bulls lead. The Bulls would hold on to the one-goal advantage going into the third period.
Just a minute into the final frame, Huston Karpman and Connor Court dropped the gloves in the Odessa zone. Karpman would land a few uppercuts to send Couet to the ice and send the fans into a frenzy.
Just moments after the fight, Ryan Coughlin and Chris Carroll forced an Odessa turnover and dished the puck to Paul Schmid on an odd-man rush. Schmid would bury a quick wrist shot past Conor Hasley to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead in the 3rd.
Bulls captain Nick Martino would score an empty-net goal to secure a 3-to-0 Bulls victory. Takacs earns his 12th win of the year with a 28 save shutout performance. Amarillo improves to 23-10-3-4 and has 53 points on the season.
Amarillo will stay at home next Friday and Saturday as they host the top seed Shreveport Mudbugs for a two-game series. Both games will start at 7:05 p.m.
