AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls received some good news today as two players were named to the North American Hockey League’s All-South Division team.
Captain and defenseman Derek Hills and goaltender Nikifor Szczerba were named to that team that also includes two members of the Topeka RoadRunners, and representatives from the Corpus Christi IceRays and the Texas Tornado.
“It is a great honor for Derek and Nikifor. They are both very deserving of this award and have been huge pieces to the puzzle “said Head Coach Dennis Williams. “Nikifor has been the backbone to our program and a huge factor to our team’s success this year. Derek has been a tremendous leader and an absolute warrior game in and game out. I cannot say enough of what Nikifor and Derek has meant for this program both on and off the ice.”
Hills, a Campbell River, BC resident, notched seven goals and 25 assists for 32 points in 57 games. He also had four power play goals and 12 power play assists and 135 shots.
Szczerba, native of Krynica-Zdroj,Polandposted a mark of 30-8-4 with a 2.52 Goals Against Average and a .918 save percentage. Szczerba’s 30 wins was tied for the lead in the North American Hockey League, and he was fourth in shutouts with five.
Championship week starts Tuesday for the Amarillo Bulls in Topeka with their opening game at the Robertson Cup NAHL National tournament against the winner of the Bismarck Bobcats/Michigan Warriors play-in series. Face off is set for 4:05 pm at Kansas Expo Center-Landon Arena.
