Strong goaltending, timely scoring lead Bulls to series lead

Shreveport, LA(May 21, 2021) The Amarillo Bulls took a one-game lead in the South division semi-final round after a 4-to-1 win over the Mudbugs.

Amarillo entered game one losing the last nine meetings with Shreveport. The hometown Mudbugs would get the scoring started with a Matt Weber goal just 2:59 into the game.

After surrendering the opening goal, Bulls goalie Andrew Takacs made strong saves throughout the opening period and 12 minutes into the period, would get some offensive support. At the 12:09 mark, Paul Schmid would bury a rebound chance past Aresniy Sergeev to tie the game at one.

Takacs and Sergeev would both make phenomenal saves in the second period to keep the game tied. Jordan Venegoni would break the tie at the 17-minute mark of the second period with another rebound goal to give the Bulls a 2-to-1 lead going into the third period.

The third period would start with an Amarillo five-minute power play after Mudbugs forward was called for a game misconduct and major penalty following a dangerous on Casey Roepke. The Bulls would not be able to extend their lead as the Mudbugs killed off the major penalty.

Shreveport would throw plenty of shots at Takacs but the Bulls goalie would keep the puck out and hold on to the one-goal lead late in the third period. In the final moments, the Mudbugs pulled their goalie and Jere Vaisanen would score on the empty net to give the Bulls a 3-to-1 lead.
