Several Bulls Alumni Named NCAA Student Athletes

AMARILLO, TX – Amarillo Bulls Alumni have certainly made an impact at the next level with the NCAA both on and off the ice. Defenseman Geoff Fortman from Canisius College has been chosen as co winner of the Atlantic Hockey Student Athletes of the Year.

It’s Fortman’s third straight year being award the league’s top academic honor. The Illinois native and member of the 2013 National Championship Team has recently signed with the Rapid City Rush of the ECHL with former Amarillo Gorillas Head Coach Joe Ferras.

To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an individual must post a 3.0 GPA or better in all academic semesters in which his team was actively competing.

Other players chosen to the Atlantic Hockey All Academic Teams include Brendan McGuire and Clint Carlisle at Army West Point; Matt Sieckhaus at Bentley University; and Joey Molinaro with Niagara University.

Meantime, Hampus Gustafsson who just graduated from Merrimack College has been chosen Hockey East Co-Top Scholar Athlete joining teammates John Kovacevic and Alfred Larsson. Other players chosen as Top Scholar Athletes for their respective school is Colin Delia also from Merrimack College.

A record 149 student athletes were named to Hockey East’s All-Academic Team achieving a Grade Point Average of 3.0 or better. Gustafsson compiled a perfect 4.0 GPA for the season.
