BULLS FORWARD RYAN TAYLOR COMMITS TO
WESTERN NEW ENGLAND UNIVERSITY
AMARILLO, TX – A sixth member of this year’s Amarillo Bulls has announced his NCAA Commitment.
The Bulls announced today (Thursday) that forward Ryan Taylor has committed to Western New England University for the 2012-2013 season. Western New England University is a Division III school that plays out of the ECAC Northeast Division.
“I'm very excited about this opportunity,” Taylor said. “It’s a terrific chance to move on to a great school. I really like the coach. I’m a little relieved to get this done early so now I can focus on winning the Robertson Cup.”
Taylor, a native of Canfield, Ohio, is in his second season with the Bulls and has posted seven assists. The hard working forward has been a big part of the Bulls success on the ice, including their penalty kill.
“Ryan has been a great warrior for us,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “He had some hard times last year with a broken hand and battled through to stick with us through thick and thin. I couldn’t be happier for him. He is the ultimate team guy and you win games because of players like him.”
Williams said that Western New England is not only getting a great person, but a very good hockey player.
“I think at the end of the day he will represent for the four years at the university very well and do well academically,” Williams added. ”We’re going to continue to rely on Ryan down the stretch here to be a leader for us. He will be an important part of this program through the rest of the season.”
Taylor said having prior knowledge of the coaching staff helped make his decision.
“Their Head Coach (Greg Heffernan) used to coach the Cleveland Jr. Barons,” Taylor said. “I didn’t get a chance to play for him but I have known him for a while. I know several players who are currently at Western New England University and after talking to them, getting a feel for the classes and the campus, as well as talking to the coach, that it seems like a good fit for me.”
Ryan Taylor is the sixth member of the Amarillo Bulls to commit to play NCAA Hockey. He joins Luke Jenkins (Army), John Gustafsson (Merrimack College), Joe Kozlak (Army), Greg Gibson (Robert Morris), and Karl Beckman (Holy Cross).
