Mudbugs rally, even series with overtime win

Shreveport, LA(May 22, 2021)-The South division semi-final round is tied at one game apiece after the Mudbugs took game two 2-to-1 in overtime on Saturday night.

Both goalies Andrew Takacs and Cole Hudson made timely saves in the opening period to keep the scoring at bay. Amarillo would take the first penalty of the game but would kill off the Shreveport man advantage. Neither team would find the back of the next in the opening period.

Under a minute into the second period, Harrison Scott would break the ice after jumping on a rebound and blowing it past Hudson to give Amarillo a 1-to-0 lead in the second period. The Mudbugs would again get chances in the period but Takacs would keep his shutout streak alive with four consecutive periods without allowing a goal going back into game 1.

Amarillo would hound the Shreveport goal in the second but Hudson would keep the puck out for the rest of the second period. The Bulls would head into the third period with a one-goal lead looking to hold on for a 2-to-0 lead in the series.

Amarillo would hold onto their one-goal lead for much of the third with the help of big saves from Andrew Takacs. The Mudbugs would pull their goalie late in the game. The Bulls would have a chance to seal the game with a shot at the empty net but Shreveport defenseman Chris Hedden got in the shooting lane to keep his team alive.

With only 35 seconds left in the game, Joe Mack would beat Andrew Takacs to tie the game and send the Mudbugs fans into a frenzy. The score would stay and game two of the series would go to overtime.

Shreveport controlled most of the play in the overtime frame and four minutes into the extra frame, Billy Feczko would get the game-winning goal on a one-time shot to beat Takacs and even the series.

Game 3 will be Thursday at the Budweiser Bullpen in downtown Amarillo. Game 4 will be Friday night at the Bullpen as well.
