AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls proud members of the North American Hockey League announced today (Saturday) that goaltender Mike Taffe has committed to Manhattanville College, Division III, for this fall. Manhattanville College plays out of the ECAC West and is located in White Plains, New York.
Taffe, a native of Maple Grove, Minnesota, was part of the Bulls terrific regular season where the team won 46 regular season games. He and teammate Gregg Gruehl were one of the league’s best tandems between the pipes. Taffe posted a record of 20-3-3 record with a 2.22 Goals Against Average and a save percentage of .916.
“I went out there for a visit recently and they toured me around campus,” said Taffe. “It’s located in a rural area in White Plains NY which is nice and 20 minutes from downtown Manhattan. It had me in awe when I was there. The coaches and staff are excellent and it’s a first class facility.”
Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams said that Taffe’s character and off-ice work ethic is a great fit for Manhattanville College.
“I’m really excited for Mike who was a great addition for our program when we brought him in from University of Nebraska-Omaha,” Williams said. “I have said this all year that we truly have the best goaltender tandem in the league. He’s been a great leader, teammate and his experience was terrific especially for your young guys.”
Taffe has already gotten off to a fantastic start in the post season for the Amarillo Bulls, notching two of the three wins in their first-round series win over the Odessa Jackalopes, including Game 3 in overtime.
“It was terrific to play for a team like we had this year in the regular season,” Taffe said. “I only had three losses and that was a big thing not only for the team but for me. Our record showed that we had not only a great team offensively but defensively, too.”
Mike Taffe becomes the 12th member of this year’s Amarillo Bulls’ roster to commit to play NCAA College Hockey. He joins Brandon Lubin (American International College), TJ Sarcona (Niagara University), Brooks Behling (Providence), Matt Johnson (Lake Superior State University), Luke Jenkins (Army), John Gustafsson (Merrimack College), Joe Kozlak (Army), Greg Gibson (Robert Morris University), Karl Beckman (Holy Cross University), Michael Erickson (Williams College), and Ryan Taylor (Western New England University).
