ASTON, PA – The Amarillo Bulls completed their first full day of Main Camp at the Ice Works Complex in Aston, PA near Philadelphia.
The Bulls Coaching Staff spent late Wednesday evaluating the goaltenders and putting them through several drills in hopes of choosing the best to move on.
“I thought the goaltender session was fantastic,” said Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo. “The young men that were there battled really hard for their opportunity. We started with 28 goaltenders and dropped that down to 18 as we move forward to the second part of the camp. There were some extremely difficult decisions for our coaching staff, and in the end I think we let a few goaltenders go that will be successful in junior hockey.”
The forwards and the defensemen arrived on the scene on Thursday and three scrimmage games took place. It was the Light Blue team winning 5-2, while Teal came away with a 3-1 triumph, and in the final game of the day Purple won 5-4 in an eight-round shootout.
“The pace of play was something that really struck me,” said Russo. “In comparison to last year’s Main Camp, I thought the games were very fast, skilled and the guys were making plays under pressure. Our veterans did a great job of setting the tone with Nick Stuckless and Jason Brancheau standing out. They each had three points in their games, with Brancheau netting two goals and an assist, while Stuckless had one goal and two helpers. I was pleased with Ryan Lautenbach in his debut with us and Cooper Fensterstock was also very good for us, too. I am very eager to see the other players get comfortable with their teams and see what tomorrow brings to us.”
Scrimmages will continue tomorrow (Friday) with one of the All-Star game set for late Saturday and a final one on Sunday before the Training Camp selections are made. Fans are encouraged to visit the Bulls Website, as well as stay close on Social Media for updates on the activities at Main Camp.
