AMARILLO, TX — Speed and skilled forwards seemed to have replaced size and strength in the South Division of the North American Hockey League. Every team has made it a point to stock up on those types of players not only building for the present but the future.
The Amarillo Bulls have certainly been busy in this area and today (Thursday) announced the tendering of forward Luke Larbes for the 2017-18 season. Larbes becomes the eighth player to be signed to a tender.
The native of Liberty Township, Ohio (near Cincinnati), spent the past two seasons in the Tier One Elite Hockey League with the Ohio Blue Jackets where he tallied 16 goals and 19 assists for 35 points in 64 games.
Larbes said he is looking forward to playing in one of the best divisions in the league.
“Playing in the South Division is going to be an unbelievable experience,” Larbes said. “This division has so many skilled players and hopefully I can fit right in. I think playing in the NAHL is a great step for me to get ready for College Hockey, especially in the South Division. “
The 5-9, 160 pound forward said after doing his research he said that Amarillo was the place he wanted to play.
“I’m very excited to be tendering with the Amarillo Bulls,” he said. “I have done extensive research and the Bulls are such as prestigious organization that it was a place I wanted to be. I talked with Coach Matt (Nicholson) back in December and ever since then I have been hooked on the team. I am looking forward to next season and it’s going to be a great time.”
“One of the reasons why I chose Amarillo is the respect I have for the coaches and the great communication with them. I have talked to them several times and I feel that it is a fit for me. I get to move away from home and explore the southern region of the US. I was sold from day one.”
Larbes said he believes that he can bring a lot of speed and pace to the Bulls game.
“I’m a smaller guy, but I know how to move around players and create time and space,” he said. “I can make some plays and help in the scoring area.”
Luke Larbes joins Aaron Swanson, Alex Cathcart, Michael McInerney, Brendan Furry, Brendan Datema, Tanner Palocsik and Jakob Hanthorn as players announced as tendered for the Amarillo Bulls for the 2017-18 season.
