AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls received some great news from the North American Hockey League earlier this week when it was announced that Derek Hills was named the South Division Player Of The Week.
Hills, a native of Campbell River, British Columbia, notched one goal and three assists for the Bulls this past weekend. On Thursday night, Hills picked up two assists in a 4-3 loss to the New Mexico Mustangs and then the next night. he added his third assist in a setback to the Corpus Christi IceRays.
Hills finished up his weekend in fine fashion, connecting for the game winner as the Bulls beat the IceRays 4-1.
“Derek is our captain and an extremely mature young man,” said Bulls head coach Dennis Williams on NAHL.com. “He makes an impact in all three zones and will be a tremendous asset to a Division I program next season.”
In 37 games for the Bulls, Hills has seven goals and 23 assists for 30 points. He is plus 10 and has four power play goals and two game-winning markers.
The Amarillo Bulls return to home ice this weekend when they host the New Mexico Mustangs on Friday and Saturday night at 7 pm. On Friday night, all children entering the Bull Pen will receive a free Bulls’ Tattoo. Suddenlink Communications sponsors Saturday night, and the first 500 fans will receive thundersticks.
