THE TRADITION CONTINUES: It’s the ninth home opener for the Amarillo Bulls in the North American Hockey League. The Bulls have won five of the previous eight games in franchise history. Saturday also marks the 23rd consecutive year of Hockey in The Texas Panhandle dating back to the Amarillo Rattlers and the Gorillas.
THE SERIES: It’s the first of 12 meetings between the Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas. The two teams will meet again for three times in the month of October including two games in North Richland Hills at NYTEX Sports Center.
BULLS ARE BACK: Head Coach Rocky Russo returns for his second season behind the bench of the Amarillo Bulls and is joined by Assistant Coach George Lewis. The Bulls return 10 players from last year’s program that were just shy of returning to the post season. There are also several players that have previous junior hockey experience.
BRAHMAS MUCH DIFFERENT LOOK: The Lone Star Brahmas have just four players returning from last year’s roster that lost in the fifth game of the South Division final to the Shreveport Mudbugs. Dan Wildfong returns to the bench for the Brahmas that captured the Robertson Cup National Championship just a few short years ago.
NAHL SHOWCASE STARTS WEDNESDAY: It’s been tabbed as the greatest show on ice and an event not to be missed. The 2018 North American Hockey League Showcase faces off Wednesday in Blaine, Minnesota located northwest of the twin cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. The Bulls begin action in Prime Time versus the Brookings Blizzard at 8 pm. The rest of the schedule has Rocky Russo’s charges facing the Chippewa Steel (formerly the Coulee Region Chill), Jamestown Rebels (formerly the Aston and Phiadelphia Rebels) and the New Jersey Titans. All of the action is carried live on 107.1 Nash Icon and www.amarillobulls.com as well as on Hockey TV beginning with the Fit Omni Warm Up Show 20 minutes before the puck is dropped.
