TOPEKA, KS – Two red hot teams in the North American Hockey League’s South Division go head-to-head tonight (Friday) on New Years’ Eve when the Amarillo Bulls visit the Topeka RoadRunners at 6 pm.
Each team has won eight of their last 10 games and both have been productive in the month of December with five wins. The Bulls trail the first place Texas Tornado by just one point in the standings. With a victory tonight, and a loss by the Tornado to the Wichita Falls Wildcats, then Amarillo could move into first. The Topeka Road Runners are alone in third just two back of the Bulls and three back of the Tornado. The Bulls still have several games in hand on each team.
It’s the fifth meeting of the season between the two teams and the Bulls have enjoyed a 3-1 edge following two wins in the Texas Panhandle and one in Topeka. The RoadRunners’ lone win in the series came when they met on Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
One of the battles on the ice could be special teams as Amarillo and Topeka each have solid penalty killing units. The Bulls power play was lethal on Wednesday night in their 7-3 win over Wichita Falls as they connected four times in seven opportunities.
