Four Bulls make NAHL Top Prospects Tourney

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls received some great news today (Wednesday) when it was announced that four of their players have been named to the North American Hockey League’s Top Prospects Tournament that will be held from December 5-7 at Iorio Ice Arena in Walpole, Mass.

Goaltender Nikifor Szczerba, defenseman Kyle Sucher and Derek Hills along with forward Zack Smoot will suit up for Team Legwand, name after current Nashville Predators forward and form NAHL player David Legwand.

The NAHL Top Prospects Tournament is a three day round-robin event featuring the NAHL’s top committed and un-committed players, including those recognized on the NHL Central Scouting Bureau’s Watch List.

“It is a great honor for not only these four men, but for the entire Bulls’ Hockey team and its supporters, said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “I am very proud of them and I know they will compete hard at the showcase. This is a great opportunity for them to showcase themselves to not only Division One Hockey programs, but to the National Hockey League.”

The four Bulls players are tied for the second most of teams sending players to the Prospects Tournament. The Wenatchee Wild lead the way with seven players followed by the Bulls and several other teams with four.

Nikifor Szczerba leads all goaltenders in wins with 11. He is second in shutouts and shootout wins, while ranking fourth in minutes played and fifth in both save percentage and goals against average.

Defenseman Kyle Sucher was one of seven NAHL players named to the NHL Central Scouting Watch List. He is also committed to Bowling Green State University. Derek Hills leads all Bulls defensemen with 11 points and in power play assists with five. Zack Smoot leads the team in points with 16, second on assists with 10 and tied for third in plus minus at plus nine.

          The Amarillo Bulls have this weekend off in the NAHL and return to action on Saturday, Nov. 13, when they visit the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm at Kay Yeager Coliseum.           Hockey is back at the Amarillo Civic Center on Friday, Nov. 19, and Saturday, Nov. 20, when the Bulls host the same Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm. The Bulls mascot will be unveiled on Friday, Nov. 19, while several group nights are also planned for that night and the Saturday game.
