Erickson Commits to Williams College

AMARILLO, TX – Amarillo Bulls forward Michael Erickson received an early Christmas gift this week.

Erickson announced today (Tuesday) that he has committed to Williams College, Division III, for the 2012 season. Williams College is located in Williamstown, Mass and plays out of the New England Small College Athletic Conference.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be accepted into this college,” Erickson said. “It’s such a sense of accomplishment when you apply to a school that you really want to get into. I am just ecstatic to go there and play hockey for them.”

In 33 games with the Bulls this season, the second year forward who hails from Edan Prairie, Minnesota, has notched eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points. He has three power play goals and eight power play assists.

“I’m really excited for Mike who has been a two year player for us,” said Bulls Head Coach Dennis Williams. “His on ice skill is next to none. He is an intelligent hockey player and person. To be able to go to Williams, which I believe is the top academic school in the United States, says a lot about him.”

In 2010-2011, Erickson was part of that solid forward unit that powered the Bulls to the 2011 South Division title. He had 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 57 games. He was a plus 17 and had 98 shots on goal.

Erickson said that what attracted him the most to the college was the academics.

“It’s a fantastic school that is nationally ranked,” he added. “The hockey is really good and they play out of the NESCAC which is out east where I wanted to go to school.”

Coach Williams said Erickson will be counted upon a lot for the Bulls in the second half of the year.

“He’s a warrior, a competitor and it’s been an honor and a privilege to coach him and have him part of our success,” Williams said. “We are going to look for him to bring his game up even more and push us as we make a run for the playoffs.”

Michael Erickson is the seventh member of this year’s Amarillo Bulls to commit to play NCAA Hockey. He joins Ryan Taylor (Western New England University), Luke Jenkins (Army), John Gustafsson (Merrimack College), Joe Kozlak (Army), Greg Gibson (Robert Morris), and Karl Beckman (Holy Cross).
