AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls were involved in a tight-checking, see-saw affair with the first place Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. However, it was the South Division leading Mudbugs who found a way to score a key goal, and went on to edge the Bulls 4-3 in overtime.
With the overtime loss, the Bulls dropped eight points back of the Corpus Christi IceRays for the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division. The IceRays blanked the Lone Star Brahmas.
Billy Duma scored twice for Amarillo, while Jared Domin had the other. Nick Stuckless and Nick Anderson each had two helpers, while Jason Grande took the loss in goal. Cameron Cook scored twice for Shreveport including the game winner in overtime, while Andrew Lane and Roberts Baranovskis had the others. Gustavs Grigals posted the win in goal.
Teams traded goals in the opening period as Jared Domin opened up the scoring near the midway mark from Jason Brancheau. Three minutes later, Roberts Baranovskis tied the game for Shreveport. The Bulls outshot the Mudbugs 15-10 in the first period.
The Mudbugs came out strong in the second period with 16 shots and two goals. Cameron Cook and Andrew Lane provided the offense. Billy Duma scored in the middle of the visitor markers with help from Nick Anderson and Nick Stuckless.
The Bulls scored the only goal of the third period as Billy Duma tied the game from Stuckless and Anderson.
Cameron Cook prevented the game from going into a shootout when he scored with just 32 seconds left in overtime to give Shreveport the win.
The Shreveport Mudbugs out shot the Amarillo Bulls 35-31. There were six combined power plays with Shreveport getting the lone marker.
It’s the return of the First Responders Night Presented By ER Now tomorrow night when the Bulls close out the first half of the four game home stand. There will be several booths and vehicle displays on the concourse as well as a vehicle parade during the first intermission.
