Shreveport, LA(May 7, 2021)-Despite a strong performance, Amarillo drops Friday’s game against the Mudbugs 5-to-4 in the shootout.
Shreveport would start the scoring early when Billy Feczko scored just 5:30 into the game to get the crowd into the game quickly. Both goalies would play strong in the first period and the score would remain 1-to-0 going into the intermission.
Amarillo would tie the game early in the second frame with a Harrison Scott power-play goal just 2:02 into the period. Six minutes later it would be Paul Schmid’s ninth goal of the year to give the Bulls their first lead of the night with a 2-to-1 score.
Later in the period, the Mudbugs would tie the game with a Sean Bunting breakaway goal at the 12:42 mark of the second. Less than a minute later, Jere Vaisanen would regain the Bulls lead with a stunning snipe shot over the glove of Arseniy Sergeev to make it 3-to-2.
Only 1:07 later Nick Siffinger would find the back of the net with a great setup from H. Scott to open up a two-goal lead for the Bulls that would hold after two huge saves from Hunter Garvey. Amarillo would head into the third with a two-goal lead.
In the final period, Amarillo would control play and had a few chances on the power-play to widen the lead but failed to convert. It would be in the final 90 seconds that Feczko would score his second of the game to draw Shreveport within a goal.
Exactly 30 seconds later Dawson Sciarrino would beat Garvey glove side to tie the game in the final moments of regulation and send the game into overtime. Neither team would score in the extra frame.
Amarillo would not score in the first two rounds of the shootout but Adam Kolcon would in the second round to put the pressure on Amarillo to keep the game alive in the third round. Vaisanen would attempt to keep the game alive but was stopped by Sergeev to hand Amarillo their eighth straight loss to the Mudbugs.
The Bulls will look to snap the losing skid against the Mudbugs Saturday night at 7:11 p.m. at George’s Pond in Shreveport.
