AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls, proud members of the North American Hockey League, announced today (Wednesday) that forward Cody Freeman has committed to Canisius College (Atlantic Hockey), for the 2011-2012 season.
“I am really happy for Cody and his family,” said Bulls head coach, Dennis Williams. “It is something that he has geared and worked towards. Canisius is getting not only a good hockey player but a good person. I have enjoyed working with Cody this year.”
Williams said he knows that Cody is going to be able to go to Canisius and battle for an opportunity to play.
“My job through the rest of this year is to get him ready to step in and play,” he said. “He has been a big part of our program and will continue to do that down the stretch. We have unfinished business to do here in the South Division and in the playoffs, so it is going to be important for him to continue to be a leader on the ice and help us in our quest to win the Robertson Cup.”
Freeman, a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, leads several offensive categories for the Bulls this season including goals with 25, as well as game and winning goals with seven. Freeman is also second in points with 47, shots on goal with 120 and tied for second with six power play goals.
“Canisius is a good place to go,” Freeman said. “It is very close to home and they gave me a good package so I was very happy with it.”
Freeman said it has been a dream of his to play collegiate hockey.
“My dad played at Ohio State University and I always wanted to follow in his footsteps,” Freeman explained. “It is something I have been working on my whole life so it is very huge for me.”
Canisius College is a Division I school located in Buffalo, New York and plays out of the Atlantic Hockey Association Conference. That is the same conference where Bulls defenseman Karl Beckman will be playing out of in the fall of 2012. Beckman announced a couple of weeks ago that he committed to Holy Cross University.
