AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls conclude their regular season schedule on the road tonight when they begin a two game series against the New Mexico Mustangs at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho New Mexico. The face-off is set for 7:30 pm mountain, 8:30 pm central.
The two teams will have an off day on Friday before playing each other one last time on Saturday night.
The Bulls have outscored the Mustangs 21-9 in the games that were played in New Mexico. The last time the two teams met, Amarillo won 10-1.
Forward Mike Erickson has collected six points in his last five games, including three goals. The Bulls are tied with the Bismarck Bobcats with league leading 22 wins on the road this season. Seven Bulls’ players have averaged over 21 points on the road this season, while goaltenders Greg Gruehl and Mike Taffe have a combined goals against average of 2.32.
The Mustangs have played very well on home ice posting 11 victories. Forward Adam Chapie has 17 goals and 30 points, while goaltender Jake Stafford has notched six of the 11 wins.
The Amarillo Bulls will finally have a clear picture of who they will be playing in the first round of the NAHL Robertson Cup Playoffs following this weekend’s play. The Odessa Jackalopes and the Corpus Christi IceRays are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot. The Jackalopes visit Wichita Falls on Friday before heading north to Topeka to face the RoadRunners on Saturday and Sunday. The IceRays close out their season with a pair of games in Frisco against the Texas Tornado starting on Friday night.
