AMARILLO, TX – The first of two straight games on the road for the Amarillo Bulls begins this Saturday when they visit the New Mexico Mustangs, at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, at 8:30 pm Central, 7:30 pm Mountain.
The Bulls currently sit in third place in the North American Hockey League’s South Division one point behind the 2ndplace Wichita Falls Wildcats and two points back of the leading Texas Tornado. It’s the lone game of the weekend for the Bulls, while the Wildcats will play three and the Tornado has two.
Due to activities going on in the Amarillo Civic Center, the Bulls left for New Mexico late Wednesday afternoon and will practice through the remainder of the week.
It’s the third meeting of the season between the two teams with the Bulls taking the first two 8-2 and 5-0. The clubs will not see one another until early December back in Rio Rancho.
Amarillo is 1-2-1 on the road this season with the lone victory coming at the North American Hockey League Showcase in September. The Bulls are 0-1-1 in road games in the South Division. The Mustangs have won three of their seven games on home ice.
The Amarillo Bulls and the New Mexico Mustangs are two of the top six most penalized teams in the NAHL. When it comes to specialty teams both teams have struggled. The Bulls have not scored a power play goal in their last five games, while the Mustangs are near the bottom in both power play and penalty killing.
In each of the last two games, the Bulls have rallied in third periods to win games, netting a total of eight goals. The Mustangs have been outscored 46-18 in the final 40 minutes of games this season.

Hockey returns to the Amarillo Civic Center on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 when the Bulls entertain the Wichita Falls Wildcats at 7 pm. On Friday the Bulls mascot will be unveiled for the first time and the Corvette Club of Amarillo will be holding a car display on the concourse.
