Amarillo, Tx (May 27, 2021)-The Bulls fall behind in the South division semi-final round following a 3-to-2 loss in overtime on Thursday night.
Game three would start with a Mudbugs assault on the Bulls goal, with eight early shots on net and limiting possession for Amarillo. 11 minutes into the first period, Shreveport dumped the puck in the Amarillo zone. Goalie Andrew Takacs went to play the puck but lost his stick which resulted in an open net for Garret Steele to break the ice and give the Mudbugs a 1-to-0 lead.
The Amarillo offense would wake up after the goal and 10 shots on net but could not solve Cole Hudson in net. Shreveport would take a one-goal lead into the break.
The Bulls would get a chance to tie the game on the power-play but would not breakthrough until a few seconds after the man advantage expired. Paul Schmid took a shot and the rebound went right to an open Ryan Coughlin to burry the loose puck and tie the game.
Shreveport would respond later in the period after the Bulls had trouble exiting their zone. Steele would get his second of the night off a rebound from a Joe Mack shot to take it 2-to-1 going into the third.
Amarillo would get the majority of the chances in the third period looking to tie up the game. Mudbugs goalie Hudson would keep the door shut. The Bulls would take a penalty late in the period but in the final moments pulled Takacs to get it back to even strength. Jere Vaisanen would let a shot go from the point and Harrison Scott would deflect it past Hudson with only 21 seconds left to tie the game and send the Bullpen into a frenzy.
Overtime started with Shreveport controlling the pace of play. Just a few moments in it appeared at the Mudbugs won the game when Sean Bunting got the puck past Takacs but it was waved off due to a distinct kicking motion from Bunting. The Bulls could not take advantage of the second chance and at the 5:27 mark, Dawson Sciarrino would break into the Bulls zone and beat Takacs glove side to give Shreveport the 3-to-2 win in overtime.
The series is now 2-to-1 as the Bulls look to stave off elimination in game four on Friday night at the Budweiser Bullpen and extend the series to a decisive game five.
