Forward Jason Brancheau (Bran-shaw) has tendered with the Amarillo Bulls for the 2017-18 season. The Ecorse, Michigan native joins Brendan Furry and Brendan Datema as the third Belle Tire player to join the Bulls team. Brancheau has already had a chance to skate in front of his new coaches by participating in two of the Bulls Try Out Camps in the Michigan area.
“I think skating at these try-out camps is very helpful,” Brancheau said. “I can meet some of the other tenders, get use to junior hockey and the Bulls coaches will get another opportunity to watch me play.”
Brancheau led Belle Tire of the Tier I Elite Hockey League in scoring during the 2016-17 season by posting 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points in 32 games. He finished ahead of Brendan Furry who had 28 points.
“It’s an awesome feeling and a pleasure to be with the Amarillo Bulls and the North American Hockey League,” he said. “The Bulls were one of just a few teams that were looking at me and they watched me play over a couple of weekends.”
Brancheau, who is 5-8 and 154 pounds, said that although he is not a big player but knows how to get the job done on the ice
“Well I am not a very big player, but I’m more elusive and look for players open,” he said. “I am much more of a playmaker. My defensive game is good and I try to work as hard as I can to get the puck out of the zone.”
Brancheau played two seasons at Wyandotte Rosevelt High School where he netted 54 goals and 125 points. He said moving up from high school to Tier I Elite Hockey League was a change for him.
“I played for my high school so moving up was really different, but the coaches took their time and worked with me to help my game,” he said. “The game pace was a lot faster and that will help get me ready for juniors. I think it will take me time to adjust, but I know I am ready for the next step.”
