BULLS TAKE GAME ONE OF BACK-TO-BACK VERSUS NEW MEXICO
Amarillo,Tx(Jan. 2 2021) -The Bulls start 2021 in the win column with a 3-1 victory over the New Mexico Ice Wolves. In the first meeting of the teams this year, the Bulls had a strong offensive game against the struggling Ice Wolves.
The first period would see Amarillo get off to a fast stat with 15 shots on goal but could not get a puck past New Mexico goalie Josh Graziano. The Bulls would hold the Ice Wolves to just 7 shots in the first and the teams would go into the second period scoreless.
Nick Martino would break the ice just 1:16 into the second period by poking home a rebound into the open net to give the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Moments after the Martino goal, Cal Sandquist would stop Jack Whitmore on a penalty shot to keep the Bulls lead.
Amarillo would continue to put pressure on New Mexico and 7:34 into the second, Jere Vaisanen would put the Bulls up 2-0.
Vaisanen would score his second goal of the period with five minutes remaining in the second period. Jere scored his fifth and sixth goal of the season for a team leading 11 points. The Bulls would hold their 3-0 lead into the third.
New Mexico would break the shutout five minutes into the third when Ice Wolves defenseman Brandon Holt scored on a slap-shot to make the score 3-1. Amarillo would hold on to their two goal lead and earn their fifth win of the season.
Goalie Cal Sandquist earned his fifth win of the season. Nick Martino scored his second goal of the season and Jere Vaisanen would score goals five and six of the season.
The Bulls and Ice Wolves will wrap up their weekend series tomorrow at 3:05 from the Budweiser Bullpen.
