Bulls Sweep IceRays with 5-1 Win

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — The Amarillo Bulls swept a weekend series with the Corpus Christi IceRays on Sunday afternoon at American Bank Center, following a 5-1 victory in a feisty affair that featured plenty of fights and skirmishes after the whistle.

The victory was the Bulls 30th of the season and 64th point and concluded a set where they surrendered just two goals in three games. Logan Jenuwine, Jake Willets, Louis Helsen, Noah Carlin and Cooper Fensterstock replied fo the Bulls. For Carlin, it was his first North American Hockey League goal of the season. Jason Brancheau set up two goals and Justin Evenson posted the win between the pipes.

The power play got the Bulls off to a good start in the first period as Jake Willets found the back of the net from Alex Peterson. Just Under three minutes, later the IceRays pulled even when Kyle Moore scored off a turnover. 

The Bulls took control of the game with two goals in the second half of the second period. Cooper Fensterstock converted a two-on-one play from Jason Brancheau. That goal, came moments after the IceRays nearly took the lead but a shot hit the goalpost. Noah Carlin tallied his first goal of the season when he raced towards the net and squeezed a shot past goaltender Brian George. Jake Willets and Jason Brancheau picked up helpers on the play.

The visitors put the game on ice in the third period as Logan Jenuwine riffled a shot from slot area. Midway through the period, Louis Helsen banged home a rebound attempt at the side of the net with help from Logan Jenuwine. 

Justin Evenson was tested throughout the game but came up with some solid stops to preserve the lead and keep his team in front.

The Amarillo Bulls continue their road swing this Friday and Saturday versus the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum.
