AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls get a weekend split with the NAHL South leading Lone Star Brahmas on Saturday.

The first game of the weekend series was played on Friday with the Bulls looking for their third consecutive win. After holding both goalies kept their opponents scoreless, Bulls defenseman Greg Japchen would break the ice at the 8:32 mark of the second period to give Amarillo a 1-0 lead.

During the second intermission, both coaches and officials became concerned with a large divot in the sheet of ice just inside the Lone Star zone. After the rink maintenance crews spent close to 30 minutes trying to level the playing surface, the 3rd period was suspended until Saturday afternoon.

The game resumed on Saturday at 3:00 and quickly Lone Star would tie the game with a Luke Johnson goal just six minutes into the period. After back and forth action, Bulls captain Nick Martino would be set up by line mate Harrison Scott and score his second of the season to give Amarillo a 2-1 with 2:48 left in regulation. The score would remain and the Bulls would secure a 2-1 victory over Lone Star.

The second game would start after a 25 minute intermission from the previous game’s 3rd period.  The Brahmas would strike quickly just 1:23 into the game, Andrew DeCarlo would bury his ninth goal of the year giving the Brahmas a 1-0 lead. In the closing moments of the first, Luke Johnson would score his second of the afternoon and give Lone Star a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.

Lone Star would strike two more times in the second period to open up a 4-0 lead before Bulls defenseman Sean Vlasich would score his first goal of the season and get Amarillo on the board with just 30 seconds remaining in the period.

The Bulls got a quick goal early in the third period with a Carter Rapalje goal five minutes into the period. This would be Rapalje’s first goal of the season and cut the deficit to 4-2 with 15 minutes left in the game.

Lone Star goalie Rico Dimatteo would shut the door on the Bulls for the remaining part of the game and give the Brahmas a 4-2 victory over Amarillo. The Bulls earned points in the standings in five straight games but could not extend the streak following the loss Saturday afternoon. The Bulls now have a 7-6-2-1 record and are in third place of the South division with 17 points.

Amarillo will take on the Wichita Falls Warriors on the road next Friday and Saturday at 7:05p.m.
