Amarillo, Tx( Apr 16, 2021)-The Amarillo Bulls began their three-game series with a 4-to-2 win over the Wichita Falls Warriors.
The night began with the Bulls honoring the Billet families for the 2020-21 season. The players took turns taking the ice and getting pictures with their host families for the year.
The Bulls would get moving quickly with three power plays in the first 10 minutes of the game. On the first man advantage, Jere Vaisanen hit the post two separate times and the game would remain scoreless.
Amarillo would break the ice with under three minutes remaining when Greg Japchen buried his 10th goal of the season on the power play to give the Bulls a 1-to-0 lead that would hold into the second period.
The second period would start with a Cooper Fensterstock goal just 3:21 into the period to give the Bulls a 2-to-0 lead. Fensterstock would pick up with 12 points in ten games against the Warriors.
The Warriors would cut the lead in half with a Marcus Frantz on the power play at the 9:37 mark of the second period. Amarillo would respond when Jordan Venegoni broke his goalless streak with under three minutes remaining to give Amarillo a 3-to-1 lead late in the second.
Frantz would score with exactly one second remaining in the period to again cut the lead to one goal going into the third period.
The score would stay 3-to-2 for most of the third period and in the final moments, Venegoni would score an empty-net goal to secure a 4-to-2 victory for Amarillo over the Warriors.
The Bulls and Warriors face each other two more times this weekend with a 7:05 p.m. game on Saturday and a 3:05 p.m. game on Sunday.
