Amarillo, TX – The Amarillo Bulls, along with the rest of the North American Hockey League officially learned of the league’s intentions of welcoming a new member, Wichita Falls, to the NAHL ranks and the South Division.

The announcement, which came earlier this afternoon during a league press conference, declared the Wichita Falls franchise would begin play in the South Division during the 2020-2021 season.

“We are very happy to receive the news that Wichita Falls is bringing a team back to Texas,” said Amarillo Bulls Director of Operations Austin Sutter. “This is great news for the Amarillo Bulls, our fans and our youth program. We can’t wait to rekindle the in-state rivalry as they will become our closest travel partner. We are always excited to see the growth and expansion of the game in Texas and look forward to helping them develop their youth programs.”

Prior to a two-year span without out hockey, Wichita Falls was a fierce rival with the Bulls from 2010 to 2017, largely their hard-fought matchups and close geographical locations.

“We are very excited to have Wichita Falls back in the South Division,” said Bulls Coach Rocky Russo. “They are a close travel partner and have a long history of success in that community. Mrs. Choi will be an outstanding addition to the NAHL ownership group and will do everything she can to make them a successful group on and off the ice.”

The two cities last played each other during the NAHL regular season on February 25, 2017, when the then Wichita Falls Wildcats defeated the Bulls 4-2 away from Amarillo.

With the division still at seven participants for the remainder of the 2019-2020 season, The Bulls will take on the Lone Star Brahmas at the NYTEX Sports Centre on Friday, October 18 at 7:30 PM. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike’s Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05 PM CST on 107.1 Nash Icon and Hockey TV.
