Bulls Set Records in 7-2 Romp over Odessa

AMARILLO, TX — It was a record setting night on Friday at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

Logan Jenuwine and Brenden Datema set new standards for points Amarillo Hockey History as the Bulls dumped the Odessa Jackalopes 7-2. It was the Bulls 39th win of the season and they will try for the 40th tomorrow night.

Jenuwine scored early and then later added two more goals to complete a hattrick and  set a new single season mark for most goals in the single season professional or junior, currently standing at 51. Datema collected points in the game and moved ahead of Mark DeSantis for points as a defenseman in Amarillo Hockey History. Alex Peterson, Gabriel Seger, Brett Abdelnour and Cooper Fensterstock had the others. Jason Grande notched his 21st win of the season.

Despite being off for four days, the Bulls didn’t look rusty early on as they erupted for two goals in a span of 35 seconds. First, Logan Jenuwine scored off a face-off win, and then Alex Peterson stole the puck and fired it past Alex Camarre. Gabriel Seger and Alex Peterson had assists on the play.

The second period started out strong for the Bulls as they potted three goals in the first seven minutes of play. Logan Jenuwine completed his hattrick with his 50th and 51st of the year. Brenden Datema, Alex Peterson and Jason Brancheau added assists. Cooper Fensterstock completed the three goal-outburst with a nice shot from Matt Allen and Brancheau.

The Jackalopes finally solved goaltender Jason Grande as Joseph Winkelman completed a two on one from Jack Conroy and Vaclav Zidek. Amarillo outshot Odessa 12-6 in the middle stanza.

Special teams took over the third period as both teams spent a lot of time penalty killing. John Serafin scored for Odessa via the power play to cut the deficit to 5-2.

The Bulls regained the momentum in the final 10 minutes of regulation and scored twice. Brett Abdelnour tallied shorthanded and then Gabriel Seger rounded out the scoring from Brenden Datema and Nick Anderson.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackjalopes 40-25 including 13-12 in the third period. The power plays were very even with each team scoring once on a combined 19 power plays.

A jersey auction highlights a busy Saturday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center when the Amarillo Bulls host the Odessa Jackalopes at 7 pm. The Bulls will wear special Amarillo Sod Poodles Jerseys in support of Amarillo Youth Hockey and a live auction follows after the game.
