Shreveport, LA – A relentless push for a two-goal lead led the Amarillo Bulls to a 5-3 victory over the Shreveport Mudbugs on Friday night.

Taking a page from Shreveport’s gameplan from the previous night, Amarillo scored the opening goal of the game while shorthanded, as Niclas Puikkonen broke through the Mudbugs defense and buried a wrist shot into the back of the net. Just over five minutes later, Nick Trela doubled the lead with his 12 goal of the season. Shreveport found an answer to Amarillo’s hot start, cutting the lead in half when Jacob Smith shot hit the body of Sam Miller and deflected into the back of the net.

Amarillo regained a two-goal advantage at the 8:05 mark of the second period when Matt Allen cleaned up a rebound for his 22nd goal of the season. Shreveport would, again, cut the difference in half as Matt Weber scored a shorthanded goal to bring the score to 3-2.

The third period started with an Amarillo goal just 27 seconds into the final frame, as Noah Carlin found the back of the net for the ninth time this season. The Mudbugs would draw to within a single tally with close-quartered goal by Anton Rubstov. After Gleb Murtazin created a rebound with a shot on goal, Ty Black batted the puck out of the air and into the back of the net.

With the Win, the Bulls are now 36-8-1-3 with 76 points and hold sole possession of the South Division lead.

The Bulls return home on Friday, February 21, to take on the Shreveport Mudbugs. Mark Shelley will broadcast the game from the Spicy Mike’s Bar-B-Q Broadcast Booth, and the action will begin at 7:05PM CST on Mixlr.com and Hockey TV.
