AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls fired seven goals over the final 40 minutes and held off the Odessa Jackalopes 8-6 on Friday night in the first of two Pre-Season games at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
The same two teams will meet again tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at 1 pm before the regular season faces off for both in a couple of weeks.
The Bulls fell behind 3-1 after the first period despite a power play goal from Louis Helson. Carl Skarstrom, Eamonn Miller and Connor Smith replied for Odessa. However, the second period was wide open that featured six goals. Brett Abdelnour, Jason Brancheau, Carson Porkka and Jordan Venegoni tallied for Amarillo in the stanza. Kellen Tharaldson and Rex Moe added goals for the Jackalopes.
Aaron Swanson and Jordan Venegoni gave the Bulls a 7-5 advantage early in the third period and then Nick Trela potted an insurance marker via the power play late in the game to seal the win. Connor Smith notched his second of the game with the lone Odessa goal. Jason Grande came on in relief in the third period to get the win in goal. He came up with a spectacular save on a breakaway late in the game. Tyler Roy started the game for Amarillo. Returning goaltender Alex Camarre was tagged with the loss for the Jackalopes.
The 9th home opener for the Amarillo Bulls is set for Saturday, Sept. 15 at 7 pm versus the Lone Star Brahmas at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. The night is sponsored by Rick Husband International Airport and Via Airlines. That night the draw will also be made for Trip to Las Vegas for the Summer of Hockey Drawing.
