Bulls Net Fourth Home Win In A Row Beating Shreveport 5-1

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls continued their solid play on home ice on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

Two second period goals and then stingy defense that prevented the visitors from netting more than 12 shots per game – all led to the Bulls 5-1 triumph over the Shreveport Mudbugs. The Bulls regained first place in the South Division by a point over the Topeka Pilots which were victorious over the Kenai River Brown Bears.

Nick Trela tallied twice for the Bulls, while Trey Bagwell, Logan Jenuwine and Brendan Datema picked up the others. For Trela it was his first and second goals of the season, while Bagwell and Jenuwine continued their consecutive point streak. Jason Grande posted the win in goal looking very strong making key saves early to keep his team in front.

The two teams traded goals in the first eight minutes of the game, as Nick Trela notched his first junior hockey marker with a screen shot past Leo Chuard. Aaron Swanson and Nick Anderson provided assist on the play. Nearly two minutes later, Jack Johnson scored on a play at the side of the net from Andrew Jackson. Despite that offense, the Bulls controlled much of the action and outscored the Mudbugs 16-4 in the first stanza.

The game took a decided advantage towards the home team in the second period as two goals were tallied in a span of less than two minutes. Logan Jenuwine followed up a two-on-one rush up the ice and was able to get the puck across the goal line. Jake Willets and David Ojamae added assists on the marker. The power play then went to work and Brendan Datema leaned into a powerful slapshot from Nick Anderson and Brett Abdelnour to stretch the lead to 3-1. The ice seemed tilted in the second period as the Bulls had a decided 20-3 shots on goal advantage.

The Bulls poured on the offense in the third period by collecting two more goals. Nick Trela tipped home a shot from Noah Carlin and Aaron Swanson to make it 4-1, and that was followed up by a great shot from Trey Bagwell, who rounded out the scoring with assistance from Ryan Lautenbach and Carlin.

The Amarillo Bulls finished 1-for-3 on the power play while the Mudbugs were 0 for 5. The shots on goal advantage were a major advantage for the home side as Amarillo outshot its opponent 51-12.
