The North American Hockey League (NAHL) has announced today (Friday) the game schedule for the 15th annual NAHL Showcase Tournament, which will be held from September 20-23, 2017 at the Schwan Super Rink in Blaine, Minnesota. All 23 NAHL teams will be in attendance and playing regular season games at the Showcase.
The Bulls finished in third place at last year’s Showcase with a mark of 3-0-1. Overall, Amarillo is 13-10-4 in eight years at the fall classic.
The Bulls will open up their Showcase on Wednesday September 20th when they face the East Division Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights for the first time at 1:15 pm on Schwan No. 4. The follow day (Thursday, Sept. 21) the Bulls battle the Central Division Minnesota Wilderness at 5:30 pm on Schwan No.1. It’s just the second all time meeting between the two teams. The Wilderness beat the Bulls 3-1 at the 2015-16 event.
On the third day (Friday, Sept. 22) the Bulls face the Bismarck Bobcats at 7 pm on Schwan No. 2. The two have split their only two meetings at the Showcase with the last match-up dating back to 2013-14.
The Bulls will wrap up the Showcase with a first time battle against the Northeast Generals at 12:45 pm on Schwan No. 4.
“The NAHL Showcase is the best event in North America,” said Bulls New Head Coach Rocky Russo. “We are excited to play four quality opponents and have the ability to get our players exposure to all of the NCAA and NHL Scouts.”
All Bulls games will air live on CBS Sports Radio 1440, and online at www.amarillobulls.com on PPV with Hockey TV, beginning with pre-game coverage 20 minutes before the puck is dropped.
One of the things the NAHL does better than any other junior league is seeing their players earn an NCAA opportunity while playing and being showcased in the NAHL. To date, a record number of 301 players have made NCAA commitments during the past season, with over 70% of those being NCAA Division I commitments.
The NAHL Showcase plays a big role in that success, with dozens of players each season earning an NCAA Division I opportunity during and following their participation in the event.
The NAHL Showcase attracts over 9,000 people in overall attendance, including more than 350 professional, college and junior scouts. For scouting purposes, the NAHL Showcase is the premier event of its kind and is a yearly gathering for every NCAA program and NHL team as they get their first look at some of the best and brightest hockey talent North America has to offer.
The NAHL is pleased to announce that the United States National Team Development Program 17 Team (NTDP) is playing two games at the NAHL Showcase as part of the event. On Friday, September 22nd they will face off against the Austin Bruins and on Saturday, September 23rd, the will face the Minnesota Magicians.
The Schwan Super Rink is the largest ice arena of its kind in the world. The state-of-the-art facility, a $21 million project totaling over 300,000 square feet, features eight sheets of ice under one roof. With all its varied amenities and services, the Schwan Super Rink is absolutely unique in the world of ice sport facilities.
Next up for the Amarillo Bulls players is training camp that will begin later this month with on-ice workouts at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.
