BRIGHTON, MI – The second day of the Amarillo Bulls Main Camp concluded today (Friday) in Brighton, Michigan.
Bulls Head Coach Jon Rogger and Assistant Coach Mike Watt watched another series of games today before make the first round of cuts. Approximately 40 players who are remaining will play in two all-star games tomorrow (Saturday) before final meetings take place and the 27 players are selected to head to the Texas Panhandle later this month.
Brighton, Michigan (located West of Detroit) has become the home away from home for the Bulls Main Camp for the past several years offering terrific ice surfaces and facilities as well as hotel accommodations nearby.
Among the players participating in today’s games were the six players eligible to return this season.
“The Vets can into camp in pretty good shape and we were impressed with what they demonstrated on the ice,” Rogger said. “But obviously we would like to see more and that will come with the final all-star games.”
What makes selection camps so unique is that they offer players to rise to a different level. Some the coaching staff were expecting, while others come as a complete surprise. Rogger said you can get a little bit of both at these types of camps.
“There were two big surprises so far at camp and we don’t want to give away anything until after the weekend is out,” Rogger said. “Some of our tenders and draft picks really surprised us with how well they did, while there were also some disappointments.”
As the remaining players get rested up, they know they only get two more games to shine and give it their best shot. These players are hoping to impress the Bulls Coaching Staff and take one of those spots on the roster and asked back to Amarillo for practice on August 25th.
