Bulls Main Camp Begins This Afternoon

AMARILLO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls 9th Main Camp is set to hit the ice later today (Wednesday) at the Ice Works Complex in Aston, PA (near Philadelphia).

A mix of returning players, tendered players, draft picks and invitees are expected to take part. Camp begins with a goalie session this afternoon, followed by scrimmages over the next two days. A final All-Star Game and selection of the final roster concludes activities on Sunday.

“Myself and the staff are excited that now we are through our first complete cycle of our own recruiting class,” Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo said. “We are thrilled to get those young men onto the ice at the same time. The process is coming to conclusion in regards to selecting our 18-19 Roster, and I’m very happy and proud of our scouting staff as they did a great job this year. I think what they have done is made very difficult decisions for our organization as we move forward because we are going to have a very competitive camp.”

Russo said the goaltender position is vital and they want to see as many prospects as they can.

“For us we think that the goaltender position is very important to what we are trying to accomplish at this camp,” he said. “The young men that are present will have the opportunity to take part in three separate sessions. Our staff will be watching intently and will also be putting the goalies through various sets of drills that will allow us to figure out who the potential prospects are moving forward.”

Fans are encouraged to keep track of Main Camp activities throughout the week with special daily updates, and photos that will be available on Social Media as well as the Bulls website. Russo said part of the process at Main Camp is trusting what they saw as a staff through the winter and spring and watching these young men as they participated for their various clubs during the season.

“We also want to see how they have developed from that period of this past season to now and how they are able to handle the camp, compete with different players on their lines and the impact they make of the situations and scenarios that the casual fan may not necessarily notice,” he said. “We are going to look for guys that are penalty killers, shot blockers, and guys that bring a physical element. You are not picking the 15 best forwards, but you are taking the 15 forwards that helps build the best possible team that in our mind wins a Robertson Cup.”

The players that are selected for the Training Camp Roster will arrive in Amarillo in mid-August to begin preparations for the pre-season and regular seasons.
