Bulls Looking For More Billet Families

AMARILLO, TX – One of the special parts of junior hockey are billet families and the relationships that they create with the players and their families that not only last through a season but can last a lifetime.

Over the past eight years the Amarillo Bulls have been fortunate to have some amazing billet families that have taken care of the players who call the Texas Panhandle home. Now, the Bulls are looking for a few more new families that maybe able to help out.

Bulls Head Coach Rocky Russo calls Billet Families the back bone to any junior hockey program.

“The players are coming from all different parts of the country and in certain cases parts of the world so having a comfortable welcoming home is extremely important for the players success on and off the ice,” said Russo. “We understand that people’s family dynamic changes so because of that there are times that we need to add to our billet family group. I think we have the best billet families in the NAHL. They are kind, welcoming and very warm people that bring these kids into their homes and make them part of the family.”

Russo said the team is looking for a few extra families that are open to the idea of bringing these young men into their homes.

“We want the billet families to be able to help the players to continue to grow as people and hockey players and build relationships that last much longer than just the season,” he said.

When a family agrees to host a member of the team, they are required to provide room and board for the player. He will need a bed, bureau, closet space and a desk or table and chair. While players are expected to provide bed and bath linens, personal care items, mobile phones and media equipment, they also need to take care of their own transportation needs (many have their own car but it is possible the player periodically may ask for a ride to practice). The family also needs to make food available throughout the day while the player is at your home. This includes a basic breakfast, deli meats/leftovers at lunch and an evening meal. While on the road, however, players will take care of their own food expenses.
