Bulls Host IceRays In Game 1 Friday night


THE SERIES: Game 1 Best-Of-Five South Division Semi-Final Series

WHEN AND LOCATION: Friday and Saturday 7 pm, Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

PROMOTIONS: This weekend will there be a Tailgate Party starting at 5 pm with free refreshments, barbeque, and live music. Friday’s game is sponsored by Habitat For Humanity Re-Store and the first 500 fans will receive a playoff t-shirt. A White Out is in effect for Saturday’s game that is sponsored by Education Credit Union. Fans are encouraged to wear white. The first 1,000 fans get a free rally towel and all Teachers can get a free ticket with a valid ID.

PLAYOFF HISTORY: This is the first ever post season meeting between the Corpus Christi IceRays and the Amarillo Bulls. In the prior seasons of professional hockey, the cities of Corpus Christi and Amarillo were always in the opposite division and never met in the post season. The two teams were destined to meet in the first round last year, but it was spoiled by the Odessa Jackalopes who captured the fourth and final playoff spot on the final two weekends of the regular season.

REGULAR SEASON SERIES: In the 2012-13 regular season, the Amarillo Bull had a 7-3-2 versus the Corpus Christi IceRays. The Bulls captured the last three games in a row and were 4-2 in the six prior match-ups. Forward Matt Sieckhaus finished with four goals and nine assists for 13 points, while Tyler Deresky had 11 points and TJ Sarcona notched 10. Forward Gage Christianson picked up five goals, while five different players had four goals apiece. Goaltender Paul Berrafato was 7-1-0 with a 1.46 GAA.

Forward Rudy Sulmonte lead all IceRays with five goals and six assists for 11 points, while just five other players had more than one goal versus the Bulls. Goaltender Ben Myers was 3-3 versus Amarillo and a 3.65 GAA.

BULLS FIRST ROUND HISTORY: The Amarillo Bulls have a first round record of 6-2 versus opponents in the North American Hockey League playoffs. The Bulls had a 3-1 series win over the Texas Tornado in the first season with the lone loss coming on the road. Last season, the Bulls also captured the series 3-1 over the Odessa Jackalopes and the lone loss came on home ice.

STATS AND SUCH: The Amarillo Bulls head into the Robertson Cup playoffs winners of their last seven games in a row and are 9-0-1 in their last 10. There were 44 wins in the South Division by the Bulls in the regular season Twenty four of the Bulls 46 wins came when they outshot their opponent.
