Bulls Go Unbeaten At Showcase For First Time In Franchise History

AMARILLO, TX – For the first time in franchise history, the Amarillo Bulls went 4-0 at the North American Hockey League Showcase in Blaine, Minnesota. Brenden Datema scored on the power play late in the third period to snap a 2-2 tie and lift the Bulls to a 3-2 triumph over the New Jersey Titans on Saturday afternoon. The annual event, also known as The Greatest Show on Ice, exceeded all expectations as fans and scouts were treated to some incredible hockey during the four days, while more than 350 scouts attended the four-day extravaganza.

The Bulls and the Topeka Pilots were the lone teams to conclude the Showcase unbeaten and they will go head-to-head this Friday and Saturday at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center in a South Division Throwback Match-up. The two teams have not been 1st and 2nd in the South in some five years.

It was a goaltender’s duel between Ryan Winter of the Bulls and Brandon Perrone as they came up with some unbelievable saves to keep the game tight.

Rocky Russo’s charges trailed 1-0 until late in the 2nd period when Jake Willets scored on a scramble in front of the net. Logan Jenuwine and Gabriel Seger picked up assists on the goal.

In the third period it was the power play that gave the Bulls their first lead as Alex Peterson converted on a chance from Jason Brancheau and Jenuwine. After New Jersey tied the game on a power play goal of their own, Brenden Datema sent a rocket past goaltender Perrone to give Amarillo the advantage for good. Brancheau and Jenuwine finished the game with more assists on the play to give them two and three respectively.

In the final minute the Titans had a 5 on 3 for nearly 90 seconds and had their goaltender pulled tried to get the equalizer and send the game into overtime. However, the Bulls penalty killing was outstanding as was goaltender Winter, who had a couple of clutch stops, to preserve the win.

Fans won’t want to miss any of the hard hitting action this weekend as the Bulls hook up with the Topeka Pilots on Friday and Saturday at 7 pm.
