BULLS FINISH COMEBACK, DEFEAT WARRIORS IN SHOOTOUT
Wichita Falls, Tx-The Amarillo Bulls defeat the Wichita Falls Warriors in dramatic fashion on Friday night with a 4-3 shootout victory.
This matchup featured two new faces for the Bulls. Goalie Andrew Takacs and defenseman Mattias Dal Monte played their first game in an Amarillo Bulls uniform.
Defenseman Drake Usher break the ice at the 14:25 mark of the first period with a power play goal to make it 1-0 Warriors. Usher’s goal would be the only scoring in the first frame but the Bulls would get 12 shots on goal in the first period.
Amarillo would tie the game at the 7:09 mark of the second period when Jordan Venegoni deflected a Greg Japchen point shot on the power play to make it a 1-1 game. The tie would not last long as Warriors new comer Joseph Harguindeguy buried a power play goal to reclaim the Warriors lead.
Wichita Falls would extend their lead in the third period after a Ryan Robinson goal set up by Thomas Weis and William Lawson Body. The Warriors would hold on to their 3-1 lead well into the final moments of regulation.
In the final two minutes of the game, the Bulls would pull back to within one goal when Ryan Coughlin would bury a rebound to make it 3-2. In the final minute of play the Bulls had an extra attacker and newcomer Dal Monte would score the tying goal out of a loose puck scramble in the goal crease. The final seconds would melt off the clock and the teams would head to overtime.
Both teams had chances in the overtime frame but both Takacs for Amarillo and Owen Bartoszkiewicz of Wichita Falls would keep the puck out and force the game to a shootout.
Both goalies made stops in the first two rounds and Bulls forward Harrison Scott would convert on his opportunity to give Amarillo the shootout lead. Carter Korpi would be the third shooter for the Warriors but could not score to keep the game going. Takacs would earn his first win in a Bulls uniform as they go on to defeat Wichita Falls 4-3.
