FRISCO, TX – The Amarillo Bulls surrendered a goal midway through the third period and dropped a 3-2 decision to the Texas Tornado on Friday night at the Dr. Pepper Star Center in Frisco, TX. It was just the second regulation loss of the season for the Bulls and it also snapped their three-game winning streak.
The game was tied 2-2 entering the third period when the Tornado took the lead on their only even strength goal of the contest. Amarillo had several chances to score including a 5 on 3 late in the game, but couldn’t be goaltender Jimmy Krueger. After he spotted the Bulls the early lead, Krueger was outstanding the rest of the way.
It was another quick start to the game for the Bulls, scoring 3:38 into the game as Joe Kozlak’s wrist shot squeaked by the Tornado goaltender. TJ Sarcona added an assist on the goal. The Bulls extended their advantage to 2-0 when Luke Jenkins scored his first of the season at 11:47 from Mitch Rogge. Jenkins was allowed to move around the Texas defenders and his wrist shot found the back of the net.
The Tornado cut the deficit to 2-1 with a power play goal that deflected off a player and behind Nikifor Szczerba.
The second period featured a three-on-three brawl involving Michael Erickson, Shawn Serapilia and Taylor Ward of the Bulls. Both Erickson and Ward were dismissed from the game. The Tornado tied the game with their second power play goal. The Bulls had several good chances to score including two partial breakaways but were denied by Krueger.
The Texas Tornado outshot the Amarillo Bulls 43-30. The Tornado had 2 power play goals on 11 opportunities while the Bulls were 0 for 5.
