Bulls Fall Late To IceRays And Trail Series 1-0

AMARILLO, TX — The Amarillo Bulls have never faired well in the opening game of a South Division Semi-Final, and that trend continued on Friday night at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center.

Two three goal leads fell by the wayside as the Bulls dropped a tough 6-5 decision to the Corpus Christi IceRays in Game 1 of the South Division Semi-Final Series. Game Two is set for tomorrow (Saturday) night at 6 pm and then the scene shifts to Corpus Christi for the next two games of the series.

The Bulls held 3-0 and 4-1 advantages only to see Corpus Christi rally with the winner in the final three minutes of regulation time. It was the IceRays only lead of the game.

Gabriel Seger scored three times for the Bulls, while Ryan Lautenbach, and Jake Willets had the others. Jason Brancheau set up two goals, while Jason Grande took the loss in goal.

Che Landikusic scored twice for Corpus Christi, while Kyle Moore, Blake Bennett, and Mitch Walinski had the singles. Brian George notched the win in goal in relief of starter Samuel Vyletelka who started and was pulled after just 12 minutes in the first period.

The Bulls raced out to a 3-0 lead before the game was 13 minutes old thanks to some hard work and a potent offensive attack as Gabriel Seger scored twice and Jake Willets grabbed the other. Alex Peterson, Noah Carlin, David Ojamae, Nick Trela and Brendan West all picked up assists on the play.

The IceRays got their power play in order and cut the deficit to 3-1 before the period came to an end.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Corpus Christi IceRays 17-10 in the first period.

Gabriel Seger completed his hattrick midway through the second period and the Bulls had another three goal lead. Brett Abdelnour and Nick Anderson had assists on the play.

The IceRays had a big goal from their Captain Kyle Moore to bring the IceRays to within a goal.

The third period didn’t start well for the Bulls as the IceRays tied the game on a shot from Che Landikusic just 36 seconds into the action. The Bulls grabbed the lead again as Ryan Laudenbach found the back of the net on a great set up from Jason Brancheau and Brett Abdelnour.

The final nine minutes of regulation featured furious action as the visitors found a way to score twice and win the game. Austin Koss and Che Landikusic gave the IceRays the lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Down the stretch the Bulls pulled their goaltender looking to get the equalizer but failed to score on Brian George. Louis Helsen, Brett Abdelnour and Gabriel Seger nearly got the Bulls even.

The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Corpus Christi IceRays 42-31.
