AMARILLO,Texas-The Amarillo Bulls earn their 15th win of the season with a 3-to-2 shootout victory over the Shreveport Mudbugs.
The visiting Mudbugs would strike first when Joe Mack forced a turnover in the Amarillo zone and beat Andrew Takacs on the glove side at the 13:30 mark of the first period. Amarillo would get 14 shots on net but would be held scoreless in the first period.
At the halfway point of the second period, Bulls defensemen Greg Japchen would net his sixth goal of the season to pull Amarillo even at 1-to-1. Later in the period, Shreveport would convert on the power play when Braden Dorfman tucked home a rebound to make it 2-to-1.
Five minutes into the third period Japchen would score his second goal of the game to give Amarillo a power play goal and tie the game at two. The score would remain tied and for the fourth time between the Mudbugs and Bulls, the teams would need extra time to settle the game.
Neither team would end it in overtime and the two teams would head to a shootout for the second straight night. The Bulls would strike in the opening round with a Jere Vaisanen goal. Matt Weber would even the score in the next round and both teams would be scoreless until the seventh round.
Cooper Fensterstock would beat Arsenii Sergeev on the glove side to give Amarillo their fifth win in the shootout and their 15th overall win on the season. Takacs improves to a 6-0 record and Bulls defenseman Greg Japchen becomes the top goal scorer amongst NAHL defensemen with seven goals.
The Bulls and Mudbugs will meet next weekend in Shreveport for another two game series. Amarillo improves to a 15-6-2-2 record and sit in third place in the South division.
