ODESSA, TX — The Amarillo Bulls posted their sixth win in their last seven tries against the Odessa Jackalopes on Friday night at Ector County Coliseum.
Ryan Lautenbach scored the game winning goal 23 seconds into overtime to lift the Bulls to a 3-2 overtime win over the Jackalopes. It was the Bulls 45th win of the season, and leaves them one away from tying the team record set in back-to-back years of 2011-12 and 2012-13. It was the sixth game where the Bulls limited Odessa to two goals or less in a game.
Logan Jenuwine potted his 59 goal of the season, while David Ojamae had the other Justin Evenson posted the win in goal. Vaclav Zidek had both Odessa goals. Kade Phipps had a great game in goals for the Jackalopes, stopping 43 of 46 shots he faced, including several big ones during the middle stanza to keep the game close.
David Ojamae gave the Bulls a late 1-0 lead when he backhanded a shot through the legs of the goaltender. Brendan West and Louis Helsen had assists on the play. The goal was set up by a long pass by goaltender Justin Evenson and a heads up rush up the ice by Nick Trela.
The Bulls nearly made it 2-0 early in the second period as Logan Jenuwine, Alex Peterson and Nick Trela all missed chances in front of the net. It was a short time later, that the home side tied the game as Vaclav Zidek scored on a shot from the slot area.
There was a lengthy delay to start the third period due to ice problems. Once the game got back underway, Logan Jenuwine gave the Bulls the lead on a great shot from Alex Peterson. Late in the stanza, the Jackalopes tied the game again as Zidek scored on a wrist shot from the face-off circle.
In overtime, the Bulls just killed off a penalty to Ryan Lautenbach who was able to grab the puck and skate quickly up the ice. The young forward wired a shot to the top shelf to send the Bulls home with the victory.
The Amarillo Bulls outshot the Odessa Jackalopes 46-36. Each team had four power play attempts in the game but failed to score.
There is one final game left in the regular season before playoffs for the Amarillo Bulls as they close out against the Odessa Jackalopes at Ector County Coliseum. The Amarillo Bulls host the Corpus Christi IceRays in Games 1 and 2 of the South Division Semi-final Series on Friday, Apri. 12 at 7 pm and Saturday, Apri. 13 at 6 pm at the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center. On Friday, the first 1,000 fans will receive a rally towel, while the first 200 fans will get a free hotdog. The doors will open at 5:30 pm so fans can avoid paid parking. On Saturday, the first 500 fans will get a free Bulls Team Picture.
