TOPEKA, KS – The Amarillo Bulls and the Topeka RoadRunners played six one-goal games during the regular season. In the first game of their South Division final, the two teams did more of the same, but it was the RoadRunners coming out victorious 3-2 in overtime. Topeka jammed home a puck at the side of the net just over 14 minutes into the extra session.
The RoadRunners lead the Best-Of-Five South Division Final 1-0 and the second game is set for tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7 pm.
The Bulls trailed 2-1 in the final minutes of regulation time when forward Matt Johnson converted a two-on-one from Zack Smoot and tied the game. Derek Hills also earned an assist on the goal.
There was some spirited play in overtime with both teams having numerous chances to score. It would be Topeka converting their opportunity with the play at the side of the net.
The game started well for Amarillo, scoring the first goal on the power play when Brandon Lubin wired a shot from the blue line from Dan Sherer and Matt Johnson.
Topeka tied the game 1-1 in the second period on a scramble in front of the net where the Bulls’ players lost site of the puck.
In the third period, the RoadRunners took lead when they converted a scoring chance from the slot area.
The RoadRunners outshot Amarillo 40-22, including 20-8 in the first 40 minutes. It was a well played game by both teams with only five power plays. The Bulls were 1 for 3, while Topeka was 0 for 2.

There will be a second watch party for fans that will take place at Cattle Call, located off of I-40 West near Western. The watch party will start at 6:30 pm.
