NORTH RICHLAND HILS, TX – The Lone Star Brahmas were one step ahead of the Amarillo Bulls on Friday night.
Despite pulling to within one goal on several occasions the Bulls dropped a 5-2 decision to the Brahmas at NYTEX Center. The loss ended the Bulls short two game winning streak, while the victory by Lone Star extended their winning streak to eight games.
The Bulls rallied from 1-0 and 3-1 deficits only to see the Brahmas answer with timely goals to increase the lead by to a pair of goals. Brady Crabtree and Cody Gylling notched goals for the Bulls while Anton Martinsson took the loss in goal.
The Lone Star Brahmas got the jump on the Amarillo Bulls in the opening period scoring midway through the stanza to take the lead 1-0. But the Bulls rallied with a special teams goal to tie the game. Cody Gylling deflected home a shot from Jesper Synellius and Kasper Emanuelsson at the 14:49 mark. However, less than 30 seconds later the Brahmas retook the lead 2-1 when the Bulls failed to the clear the puck out of their zone and shot from the point beat goaltender Anton Martinsson. The Brahmas outshot the Bulls 12-5 in the first period.
The second period didn’t start well for the Bulls as the Brahmas pulled ahead 3-1 at the 32 second mark. Brady Crabtree gave the Bulls more life with his second goal of the season as his shot from the face off dot beat goaltender TJ Black. Nick Le Sage earned an assist on the play. Just like they have done for most of the game, the Brahmas stayed one step or two goals ahead of the Bulls when the home side scored again to make it 4-2. The Bulls outshot the Brahmas 9-7.
It was a wide-open third period and the Bulls fought valiantly to climb back into the hockey game only to be denied by the goaltender. JJ Huerena had a breakaway shorthanded but his chance missed and went over top of the net. The Brahmas rounded out the scoring with a goal in the final three minutes.
The Lone Star Brahmas outshot the Amarillo Bulls 13-6 in the third period and 32-20 in the game. There were a total of 11 combined power plays with the Bulls going 1-5 and the Brahmas were 0 for 6.
The Amarillo Bulls and the Lone Star Brahmas continue their battle tomorrow (Saturday) night at NYTEX Sports Center in North Richland Hills at 7:30 pm. Hockey returns to the Budweiser Bull Pen in the Amarillo Civic Center on Friday, Nov. 19 and Saturday, Nov. 20 when the Bulls host the Lone Star Brahmas at 7 pm. Saturday is Toys For Tots Teddy Bear Toss and fans can bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or stuffed animal to the game and when the Bulls score their first goal, throw the toys onto the ice in support of this great cause.
