The Amarillo Bulls earn their 16th win of the season following a 3-to-1 victory over the Shreveport Mudbugs in Shreveport. The win was the first time in five games where a meeting between the two teams was decided in regulation time.
The Bulls would score first late in the opening period when Jordan Venegoni scored a power play goal at the 16:35 mark of the first period. Ryan Coughlin and Greg Japchen would pick up assists on Venegoni’s fifth goal of the season.
Amarillo would add to their lead when defenseman Sean Vlasich scored his second goal of the season beating Shreveport goalie Cold Hudson on a backhand shot. The contest would get chippy toward the end of the second when Mattias Dal Monte dropped the gloves with Shreveport forward Sean Bunting.
Dal Monte would get the better of Bunting and swing more momentum toward the Amarillo bench going into the third period.
Shreveport would take a penalty just 12 seconds into the third period and at the 48 second mark of the period, Ryan Coughlin would score his sixth goal of the season and give the Bulls a 3-to-0 advantage. The score would remain until the final few moments when Braiden Dorfman broke the shutout with his 12th goal on the year.
The Bulls would hold on to secure the 3-to-1 victory in which was the first game between the two teams that did not require overtime or a shootout. Andrew Takacs made 27 saves on 28 shots he faced and improved his record to 7-0. The Bulls will take on the Mudbugs Saturday at 7:11 p.m. in the weekend finale in Shreveport.
