North Richland Hills, Tx( Apr 10, 2021)-The Amarillo Bulls defeat the Brahmas Saturday night with a 6-to-4 victory.
Lone Star would strike first with goals from Blake Benson and Joey Baez in the first seven minutes of the game. Moments after the second goal, Andrew Takacs was involved in a collision and left the ice with an injury and Cullen DeYoung would take over.
The Bulls continued to generate chances but could not solve goalie Guy Blessing. The Bulls would finally breakthrough when Sean Vlasich scored his fifth goal of the year with exactly one minute remaining to cut the deficit in half. Then just 39 seconds later Nick Martino would use his speed to generate an odd-man man rush and beat Blessing on the blocker side to tie the game a 2-to-2 after 20 minutes of play.
Amarillo would take the lead early in the second period when Carter Rapalje was able to bury a rebound for his fourth goal of the year. Seven minutes later Ty Black would score his 11th goal and give the Bulls a 4-to-2 lead in the second. Lone Star would cut the lead in half in the final minute of the second period with a Jack Collins goal. The Bulls would have a 4-to-3 lead going into the third period.
Martino would score his second goal just 38 seconds into the third period to give the Bulls a 5-to-3 lead. That score would stay the same until Max Scott scored an empty-net goal with less than two minutes remaining. Lone Star would score just seconds later but the Bulls would hold on for a 6-to-4 victory.
Cullen DeYoung made 26 saves on 28 shots faced in his first appearance for the Bulls. Amarillo will host the Wichita Falls Warriors next weekend for three games. The Bulls improve to 24-13-3-4.
